Orthotics are insoles that are placed inside the shoe. Mary brings indepth knowledge to the prescription of insoles from her MSc research into orthotic materials and theory. These shoe inserts can achieve several functions: off load painful areas, redistribute pressure, improve posture and lowerlimb symmetry, provide foot stability, manage adverse load on joints, ligaments, tendon and bone by improved timing of pressure during dynamic movements’ e.g walking/running. The prescription plan is developed in line with your, lifestyle, occupation, sport and footwear. In most cases temporary insoles are made at the time of the biomechanical assessment to achieve immediate relief from symptoms. Further consultation determines the type of orthotic device required. Prescription insoles: low profile device works well in dance and football boots. Customised/off the shelf insoles: most cost effective option designed for common foot types including paediatric feet and high heel wearers. Casted bespoke insoles for complex foot types and/or increased specification.
